The System
by A.D. Winans

The seeds for this chap were sown during A.D.’s time spent teaching poetry to prisoners in San Francisco’s Folsom and San Quentin prisons, but the harsh conditions only served to birth a product of such raw intensity it could square off with any of those age-old Johnny Cash pantywaist ditties. Emotional not only in word, its presentation evokes the horrific claustrophobia of life behind bars.

The System changed the way CenPress approached publishing. This was the chap where we began to inch forward toward our goal of producing books as art. Graphically stunning as well as poetically satisfying, The System represents the first step in the evolution of our publications

– Charles Bukowski (shortly after the ninth round)
